Through years of experience, I have learned that a Reading session is a partnership. Each have their roles, and together a definite spiritual experience can be attained. As a practicing therapist, I have found that tarot reading contains the same basic elements as the therapy process. Although during readings I am not providing mental health therapy nor is the Querent a therapy client, it is a Spirit-driven Spiritual Counseling, led by something greater than us. Others may perceive Tarot as a matter of chance, or purely an unconscious process, but I see it as a Spiritual process, one in which "that something greater than ourselves" provides guidance through the cards, linking cards together in a meaningful manner, blending symbolism to deliver a very definite message.
The Reader and the Divination Tool are connected, partners in the process. As letters form words, words form sentences, and sentences form novels, so with the cards, the symbolism come together in a meaningful manner to provide guidance to those who come seeking. To me, this process is again, Spirit-driven, and a Holy endeavor. The reader interprets the symbolism, draws upon intuition, and explains what is shown in an unbiased manner. There may definitely be times when information that is provided is uncomfortable, but it is the responsibility of the Reader to disclose these things to the Querant. Readings will never be truly effective if all is not disclosed. It is the responsibility of the Reader to help process this with the Querent.
When someone decides to seek out a Reading, first and foremost, this should be a serious endeavor. There should be a definite desire to receive guidance. During the session the Querent should be an open and active participant in the reading. This is when a reading is its most effective. The Reader can tell you what is shown, but if the Querent participates, discusses where these things apply in their lives, then a greater picture of what is taking place can be seen. Again, Tarot reading sessions are Spiritual Counseling sessions in every sense of the word, if, it is a true reading. When Querent and Reader work together, great things can happen.
